Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. former National President Cynthia Butler-McIntyre will deliver the keynote address at Bethune-Cookman University’s (B-CU) Women’s History Month assembly March 20 at 11:15 a.m. The event is free and open to the public and the university is especially encouraging all members of National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations to show their support.
Mrs. Butler-McIntyre served with honor as the 24th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., from July 2008 – July 2013. One of the world’s largest premier women’s organizations, the sorority has a membership of nearly 300,000 members. Her distinguished record of service includes leading the sorority through its centennial celebrations giving worldwide attention to the sorority and its work globally. In June 2013, her sorority dedicated the Cynthia M.A. Butler-McIntyre elementary school campus in her honor in Cherete’, Haiti.
“Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre Day” has been declared in over 25 cities nationwide and on an island. In addition, 30 cities have honored her and presented her with keys to the city. In 2011, President Barack Obama tapped her to serve as his appointee on the Board of Trustees of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation. She also is a member of the National Board of the National Council of Negro Women, an organization founded by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, B-CU’s founder and an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.
The assembly will be held in the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center, located at 698 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach. Other events in honor of Women’s History Month include a fireside chat hosted by Dr. Crystal A. deGregory, associate professor of history and the director of the Mary McLeod Bethune Center for the Study of Women and Girls and a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Dr. deGregory will be speaking from the subject, “Love Lessons” in the university’s Center for Civic Engagement on Monday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs.

"As a faculty member at one of the select American colleges founded by a woman, I join other faculty and administrators at Bethune-Cookman in our immense pride in our historic and ongoing dedication to preserving women's narratives and to making ‘her-story.’"
